IMPACT

Starting the week with impact and intention can set the tone for everything that follows. For educational leaders, the first hour of a Monday is especially powerful. It’s a time to create focus, boost morale, and steer the team toward shared goals. As we step into a new week, it’s easy to be swept up by the demands of our roles, but a moment of strategic reflection can transform that chaos into purposeful action.

To help leaders make the most of this critical hour, I’ve created the acronym IMPACT—a reminder to use this time to inspire, mentor, prioritize, acknowledge, communicate, and take action.

Here’s how each element of IMPACT can help you start your week strong.

I – Inspire: Begin the week with a positive mindset, aiming to uplift your team. Share an inspiring thought, story, or reminder to set a motivating tone.

M – Mentor: Take a few moments to connect with a team member who might benefit from guidance. A small conversation can make a big difference in someone’s week.

P – Prioritize: Outline your top priorities for the week, ensuring they align with the school’s goals and focus areas. Set clear intentions for the first hour.

A – Acknowledge: Recognize the achievements of your team, big or small. Starting the week with gratitude builds morale and reinforces a supportive culture.

C – Communicate: Use the first hour to share key information and set expectations, keeping everyone aligned and informed as they begin the week.

T – Take Action: Choose one task that moves a project or goal forward, even if it’s small. Starting with action sets a productive momentum for the entire week.

The work of an educational leader is filled with challenges and constant demands, but by focusing on IMPACT in the first hour of the week, you can set a positive and purposeful trajectory for yourself and your team. Small actions taken with intention can create a ripple effect, leading to a more focused, motivated, and cohesive environment for everyone involved. As leaders, we have the power to shape the week from the very beginning.

Let’s make that first hour count and bring the full power of IMPACT into each Monday, transforming a single hour into a catalyst for meaningful progress and success.
